Sophie Cunningham raises questions about the Indiana Fever locker room with a cryptic message

On Wednesday, DeWanna Bonner’s departure from the Indiana Fever was officially announced-a move that seemed stormy and likely conceals deeper, unspoken motives. The tension only intensified after guard Sophie Cunningham shared a curious message on X.

In the photo, several players appear huddled together, heads down. All except Cunningham, who looks upward with what can only be described as a jubilant expression.

Adding fuel to the fire, Cunningham captioned the post with just four words: “little do ya’ll know.”

The timing of the message was telling. Just after Bonner’s exit, the team announced the return of Aari McDonald, who rejoined the franchise following a short stint away.

Bonner’s last appearance in a Fever uniform was in the team’s 77-58 loss to the Atlanta Dream on June 8. She had already missed the previous five games for personal reasons, and reports suggested that she no longer wished to be part of the Fever roster.

Sophie Cunningham calls out refs for failing to protect Caitlin Clark

On June 17, during the Fever’s 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun, both Sophie Cunningham and rookie sensation Caitlin Clark dominated headlines with standout performances in a game that turned particularly heated. Neither team held back, and the physicality on the court was palpable.

The one-on-one battles-especially between Clark and Mariana Mabrey-stood out, reigniting discussion around foul calls and fairness. Fans will remember Mabrey’s eye poke to Clark, which prompted the rookie to respond by throwing her to the ground, drawing a technical foul. Jacy Sheldon, however, went unpunished after delivering what many believed to be a flagrant hit to Cunningham-who was ejected for a flagrant 2 earlier in the game.

Late in the fourth quarter, Cunningham responded with a strong foul on Sheldon, one that reignited debate over referee performance.

After the game, Cunningham spoke to reporters, openly criticizing the officiating crew for failing to protect the league’s biggest stars.

During that, it was just part of the game,”… “I think the refs had a lot to do with that. It was a build-up for a couple years now of them just not protecting the star player of the WNBA. At the end of the day, I’m going to protect my teammates. That’s what I do.

she said.

Cunningham has become a crucial asset off the bench for Indiana-a spark plug capable of shifting momentum and contributing on both ends of the court.

She’s currently averaging 5.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 10 assists per game, numbers that make her a key piece of the Fever’s ongoing efforts to climb the standings.

Upcoming games for the Indiana Fever

  • Friday, June 27 – vs. Dallas Wings at 5:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 1 – vs. Minnesota Lynx at 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 3 – vs. Las Vegas Aces at 5:00 p.m.
