Indiana Fever sealed its pass to the WNBA Playoffs for the second consecutive time and comes from finishing its last game of the 2025 regular season with a 24-20 record and a win over Minensota Lynx (33-10) 83-72 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Pending their opponent in this new instance, Las Vegas Aces or Atlanta Dream could be one of them. Despite her absence, Fever’s star point guard Sophie Cunningham chose what for her would be the best option.
Comfort is everything to Sophie
The 29-year-old point guard suffered an unfortunate torn medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her right knee against Connecticut and, following surgery, is recovering. As a result, she will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season.
Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald, Caitlin Clark and Chloe Bibby complete the list of players who will not be able to participate in the postseason. In spite of these five sensitive losses, Indiana achieved its goal and qualified for the Playoffs.
While awaiting her opponent, Sophie did not hesitate to reveal her ideal candidate on her podcast “Show Me Something”, which she hosts with West Wilson:
“I think I’m really leaning towards Atlanta because you’re in the same time zone,” said Cunningham. “The flight is like an hour and fifteen. Or if you get Vegas it’s a different time zone, longer flight. Minnesota it’s only an hour time change, but I just don’t want to play Minnesota.”
The truth is, even without their stars, Fever managed to break the franchise record, racking up the most wins in a regular season with a 24-20 record.
In total, Indiana has faced Atlanta a total of five times this season, taking into account a preseason game and they hold a 3-2 advantage. Meanwhile, Dream qualified for the Playoffs in third place in the league with a 29-14 record and a streak of five consecutive victories.
On the other hand, Las Vegas Aces accumulated 15 consecutive victories, leaving their record at 29-14 and leading them to qualify in second place in the WNBA, behind the Lynx.
Atlanta still has to face Connecticut Sun at the Mohegan Sun Arena, next Wednesday, September 10. On the other hand, the Aces are preparing to face the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday, September 11 at the Staples Center.
