Sophie Cunningham jumps to television after her first year at Indiana Fever

Sophie Cunningham has proven that she doesn’t just shine on the court. After making her WNBA debut in 2019 with the Phoenix Mercury, the 29-year-old point guard had her first year with the Indiana Fever.

Her connection with the team and fans not only made her feel comfortable and gain ground with the Fever, but also helped her grow even more in her career. And not just her athletic career.

Cunningham reveals big news

Sophie had her first year with the Indiana and averaged 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists in 30 games, but it didn’t end as she had hoped. After suffering a torn MCL in her right knee in August, she underwent surgery and was forced to end her season with the team.

Her unmistakable character, humor, and leadership have earned her the love of Fever fans (especially after defending Caitlin Clark in a game against the Sun). That’s why she found a way to stay in touch with them through her podcast with West Wilson, “Show Me Something.”

And it was in a new episode that Sophie shared with her fans that she will take advantage of the WNBA offseason to travel to New York and appear on ABC’s “Good Morning America” on October 27. Cunningham will share a segment with hosts George Stephanopoulos, Robin Roberts, and NFL icon Michael Strahan.

“This is totally off the topic of what we’re talking about, but on the 27th, I’m going to be on ‘Good Morning America’ and I’ll be up in New York,” the 29-year-old point guard began on her podcast.

The truth is that the Fever star has signed sponsorship deals with several major brands, including Adidas, Ring, and Arby’s. And it is precisely the latter that is the reason why he will be on the show:

“It’s with Arby’s. We’re going to talk about their new product… I’ll be talking about Arby’s, which is like the main gig, and then I’ll also be talking about our podcast. I’ll be talking about the WNBA. I’ll be talking about just life in general. So I have like a big segment,” explained the 6-foot-1 point guard.

Thus, while she continues to recover from her injury, Cunningham is enjoying a variety of activities. Meanwhile, her future with the Fever is uncertain as she has become a free agent and, in Indiana, only Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Makayla Timpson have contracts through 2026. We will just have to wait and see if Sophie remains part of the team next season.
