Sophie Cunningham goes viral with bikini post as fans react to injury update

Sophie Cunningham may be nursing an injury, but that hasn’t stopped the Indiana Fever guard from making headlines – both for her on-court grit and off-court personality.

Cunningham suffered a leg injury during a recent matchup against the Connecticut Sun and has since been ruled out of the Fever’s upcoming game against the Washington Mystics.

The team has labeled her status as “day-to-day,” and while her absence is felt, she’s remained in high spirits during recovery.

On Tuesday, Cunningham took to TikTok to share a light-hearted update. Wearing a revealing bikini top, she quipped, “Tell me you play in the W without telling me you play in the W,” before revealing a chipped front tooth-an injury she likely sustained during the same game.

Fans Rally Around Cunningham During Recovery

Despite her visible injuries, Cunningham’s post was filled with humor and resilience, which resonated strongly with fans.

Comments flooded in-some expressing concern, others admiring her confidence. “Hope your tooth and ankle is okay,” one follower wrote, while another joked, “The nails. The tooth. I cannot.”

Several fans recalled noticing something off during the Fever-Sun game but never saw an official broadcast mention.

“During the game I was like, ‘She’s either looking on the ground for a tooth or a contact,’ but the broadcasters never said anything so I thought it was just me,” one fan commented.

The lighthearted video might have been a moment of comic relief, but it also reminded many of the toll the WNBA takes on its athletes. Cunningham’s bruises-both literal and figurative-were on full display, but so was her character.

Indiana head coach Stephanie White offered a promising update on her recovery.

“I think we got good news from both of their MRIs, as good of news as you can get,” she said, referring to both Cunningham and another unnamed player.

“We’re looking forward to hopefully them returning at some point sooner rather than later, but at the same time, it’s how each of them progresses in their rehab.”

More Than a Viral Moment

Cunningham’s personality and toughness have made her a fan favorite, and her recent social media post added to that reputation. Even while sidelined, she remains engaged with fans and continues to show support for her team from the bench.

With stars like Caitlin Clark drawing national attention to the Fever, players like Cunningham help round out a roster full of character and competitiveness.

Her offbeat humor and openness during recovery turned what could’ve been just another injury report into a moment that reminded fans why they care about these athletes beyond the box score.

As Cunningham focuses on her rehabilitation, Fever fans are hopeful to see her back on the court soon-healthy, smiling, and maybe with a new front tooth.
