Even though Caitlin Clark has been sidelined with a quad injury, her presence continues to dominate the Indiana Fever’s headlines and her chemistry with teammateSophie Cunningham is giving fans plenty to talk about.

During Friday’s matchup against the Washington Mystics, Clark didn’t play a single minute, but that didn’t stop her from becoming the subject of a viral moment that quickly lit up social media.

Cunningham, who has stepped into the point guard role in Clark’s absence, was caught on camera fixing her hair mid-game. As the broadcast panned to the Fever bench, fans caught Clark giving her teammate a deadpan, wide-eyed stare.

Within hours, X accounts had posted and reposted the video. Whether it was Clark’s comedic timing or the unexpected nature of the stare, the clip became an instant classic among Fever fans.

Sophie Cunningham claps back with humor

Rather than ignore the moment, Cunningham leaned all the way into it with a playful jab at her teammate. Taking to Instagram on Saturday, Cunningham reposted the clip and captioned it: “Fix your face, homie.”

She didn’t stop there. In a separate comment on Sportsville’s Instagram post of the same video, she jokingly defended her in-game primping with: “hair needed work.”

It was a lighthearted exchange that gave fans a glimpse into the off-court bond developing between Clark and Cunningham, even amid a difficult stretch for the Fever. The chemistry between the two appears to be growing, and while it may not have translated to wins yet, it’s helping to establish a culture of camaraderie and fun in Indiana.

Clark’s massive popularity certainly adds fuel to the fire. Whether it’s her no-look passes, her deep threes, or simply a funny facial expression on the sideline, fans are always tuned in. The fact that one short clip could generate millions of views in just hours speaks to her cultural impact.

While the Fever have struggled out of the gate this season, moments like this one serve as reminders that building a team isn’t only about the X’s and O’s.
