The Indiana Fever faced Kelsey Plum and the Los Angeles Sparks for the second time this season at their home court, Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Still without Caitlin Clark, who has now missed 10 games this year, Sophie Cunningham and the Fever aimed for their 10th win of the WNBA season.
Julie Vanloo recently joined the Sparks after being waived by the Golden State Valkyries. She played for two minutes in Thursday’s victory over the Liberty but saw significantly more action against the Fever and left a scene for the recrods along with Sophie Cunningham.
With 1:25 left in the first quarter, Vanloo entered the game and demonstrated her hustle by diving for a loose ball, colliding with Cunningham on the ground. While Cunningham managed to secure the ball, Vanloo, also reaching for it, inadvertently grabbed Cunningham by the neck. Despite the contact, no foul was called, and the officials ruled it a jump ball.
As the two guards stood up, Vanloo appeared to say something to Cunningham with a smile, and Cunningham responded in kind with a smile and a laugh as she walked away. No harm done.
The Fever of the WNBA All-Star party in Indianapolis
Caitlin Clark, a WNBA All-Star Game captain, will be joined by Fever teammate Aliyah Boston, who was previously announced as a starter. Another Fever star, Kelsey Mitchell, will serve as a reserve for the WNBA All-Star Game on July 19 in Indianapolis.
Sophie Cunningham is in her first season with the Indiana Fever. During the 2025 season, she has averaged 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. Cunningham has been a valuable addition to the Fever lineup, playing under head coach Stephanie White. She has been particularly impactful on defense, averaging 1.0 steal per game.
