Skip Bayless roasts LeBron James’s golf obsession: “Free throws, not fairways, King”

With his NBA future still up in the air, LeBron James has been teeing off in a new direction: golf. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been spotted swinging clubs and following top tournaments, much to the concern of fans-and the unmistakable disapproval of Skip Bayless.

Clips of LeBron practicing his swing have gone viral this offseason, sparking speculation. Why the fuss? Well, it’s hard to ignore that legends like Michael Jordan and Tom Brady also got cozy with golf right before hanging up their jerseys.

But LeBron isn’t retiring-far from it. He just exercised his player option with the Lakers, signaling he’s not done yet. Still, that didn’t stop Skip from chiming in with his signature snark.

Skip vs. LeBron… again

It all began when LeBron took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Tommy Fleetwood on his win at the 2025 PGA Tour Championship.

“Congrats and [salute emoji] @TommyFleetwood1!!!” James posted. “That first one feeling is something else! Especially after dealing with adversity and shortcomings.”

Enter Skip Bayless, stage left, with a digital megaphone:

“LEBRON: Shouldn’t you be in the lab working on your free throws instead of wasting your time watching your new obsession-golf???”

Was he joking? Maybe. But if you know Skip, odds are he meant every word.

LeBron’s not alone in the golf fan club

While Bayless’s grumpy takes are nothing new, one has to wonder how he feels about other athletes-like Tiger Woods, Luke Donald, and Caitlin Clark-also sending Fleetwood their congrats.

Will Skip go full scorched-earth on every congratulatory tweet? Probably not. But if history’s any guide, LeBron will always be his favorite target.
