Skip Bayless didn’t hold back this week, unleashing a fiery tirade against Aaron Rodgers following the quarterback’s one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In a five-minute video posted on X, the longtime sports pundit labeled Rodgers a “washed-up, 41-year-old, finger-pointing, blame-deflecting diva.”
“He was washed his last three years in Green Bay,” Bayless said. “Go look at the numbers of his last three playoff games in Green Bay … I told the Jets he was washed.”
Rodgers‘ signing with Pittsburgh ends months of speculation and offseason buzz. The Steelers, coming off a 10-7 season, already brought in wide receiver DK Metcalf and are reportedly eyeing a trade for Rodgers’ former Jets teammate Allen Lazard.
“I don’t hate them anymore, I pity them”
Bayless was stunned that Pittsburgh finalized a deal with Rodgers and didn’t mince words about what he believes will come next.
“I can’t believe they actually did it,” Bayless said.
“Rodgers is going to steal from the Steelers. What has become of the Pittsburgh Steelers? I don’t hate them anymore, I pity them.”
Bayless focused much of his criticism on Rodgers‘ postseason performance in recent years. In his last playoff game with Green Bay – a 13-10 loss to San Francisco in 2022 – Rodgers managed just 225 yards and no touchdowns. His last playoff win came over the Rams in 2021, followed by a loss to Tom Brady’s Buccaneers in the NFC Championship.
The Steelers hope Rodgers can rebound from an injury-plagued stint with the Jets.
After tearing his Achilles just four snaps into the 2023 season, Rodgers returned last year and threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 17 games.
But Bayless remains convinced Rodgers‘ best years are long gone.
Bayless: Rodgers is “a name, not a game”
Even with Rodgers‘ decorated resume, Bayless argued that the Steelers would have been wiser to stick with Mason Rudolph or build around a younger quarterback.
He warned that Pittsburgh could be heading for a disastrous 2025 campaign.
“They’re starting to look like the odds-on favorite to be the first pick in the draft next year,” he said.
Bayless ended his monologue with a sharp jab at Rodgers‘ legacy.
“At least he’s got a name,” he said. “But he ain’t got any game.”
Rodgers is set to open the 2025 NFL season against his former team in Week 1, when the Steelers face the Jets at MetLife Stadium-a matchup now loaded with history, pressure, and plenty of commentary.
