Skip Bayless lashes out at the Cleveland Browns for drafting Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders finally heard his name called in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Skip Bayless isn’t happy about it. The popular sports commentator erupted on social media after learning that the Cleveland Browns selected the former Colorado star in the fifth round, 144th overall.

This year’s draft was one of the most controversial in recent years. Although Cam Ward lived up to expectations by becoming the first overall pick by the Tennessee Titans, media and fans expected Shedeur to also be among the top picks.

However, when it came to the crunch, every team ignored him. The son of the legendary Deion Sanders slipped through the cracks until the Browns picked him up in the fifth round, and Bayless won’t forgive the NFL for this snub.

Skip Bayless’s anger

Minutes after Sanders’ selection was announced, an outraged Bayless took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to lambast NFL teams, saying, in all caps, “SHEDEUR SHOULD’VE GONE FIRST TO TENNESSEE.”

The veteran commentator underscored the difficult situation Sanders will be in with the Browns. “He [Sanders] went 144th, arguably to the NFL’s worst franchise, in a division featuring the two best quarterbacks in the NFL,” possibly referring to Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson.

He also emphasized that Shedeur will face stiff competition, not to be the starter but to earn a spot on the main roster. Bayless noted that Cleveland drafted quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round and that they already have Watson as a starter, backed up by veteran Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.

It was all thanks to a last-minute deal

After hours of uncertainty, Shedeur breathed a sigh of relief when the Browns made a deal with Seattle to move up to 144th from their original 166th pick, giving up their spots in the fifth and sixth rounds to the Seahawks in return.

Although Sanders won’t be ideally positioned in the Browns, this is precisely the moment when the heir to the Sanders dynasty must prove himself a worthy successor to Coach Prime, overcoming the odds and carving out his own place in NFL history.
