Veteran defensive back Jonathan Owens is ready to make a statement as he enters his second season with the Chicago Bears after playing for the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, and the Arizona Cardinals.

In 65 regular season games in his career – with 35 starts -, he has totaled 261 tackles, with 10 passes defended, two quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles.

When he signed with the Bears in 2024, Owens said that regardless of his role with the team, he was going to maximize his opportunity because he was going to compete. “Persistence” has been the word that has defined the careeer of the undrafted NFL player.

Jonathan Owens was part of the Chicago Bears‘ challenge: reaction time, which involves catching sticks and showing reflexes in a short amount of time. Among the participants were defensive back Jaquan Brisker, wide receiver Rome Odunze, and kicker Cairo Santos.

Owens had to do the challenge twice because during his first try, he thought that the goal was to slap the sticks, not to catch them. After realizing that he was doing it wrong, he begged for a second chance, and he absolutely nailed the game.

However, some fans mentioned the fact that Jonathan Owens ‘cheated’ because a person cannot be down on a knee for the challenge. “Owens cracking me up,” an Instagram user posted. “Y’all better catch the playoffs this season,” someone else added.

The Bears hope to have a winning season in 2025

The Chicago Bears are hoping to bounce back in the 2025 regular season after having a terrible season that ended with a 5-12 record, last place in the very competitive NFC North. Young quarterback Caleb Williams is looking to show the league that he was worth being selected with the No. 1 pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.

First-year coach Ben Johnson recently said that Williams‘ committed to learning the offense. “We’re not where we need to be yet as a team, and he understands that. Any chance he gets to get a few more full-speed reps, it sounds like he wants them.”

Williams isn’t the only one learning. Johnson has spent the offseason identifying the strengths and weaknesses of every Bears player, Williams included. “We’ve loaded him up,” the head coach said. “We’re tried a number of different things: long play calls, multiple plays at the line. Tempo.”
