Shohei Ohtani warned about Juan Soto’s resurgence with the Mets

The 2025 MLB season has brought with it an unexpected narrative: the resurgence of Juan Soto with the New York Mets is drawing direct comparisons to Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar

Although both signed historic contracts, insiders and analysts are beginning to debate which of the two represents better value for their team.

Two contracts, two realities

Ohtani signed a $700 million, 10-year deal with the Dodgers, while Soto broke records with a $765 million, 15-year contract with the Mets. While Ohtani’s deal includes deferred money and flexibility for the team, Soto’s has been criticized for its financial impact and defensive performance.

Soto responds on the field

Despite initial doubts, Soto has begun to justify his contract with an offensive streak that has changed the Mets’ fortunes. With multiple home runs, RBIs and an improved batting average, the Dominican is leading a redemption that puts the Mets back in the playoff conversation.

Ohtani, the complete player

Shohei Ohtani, on the other hand, is still considered the most complete player in the league. His ability to pitch and hit puts him in a unique category. Although he has not pitched since 2023, his offensive impact and presence in the clubhouse have been instrumental for the Dodgers.

Who offers more value?

Analysts such as Bob Nightengale and Deesha Thosar agree that if they had to build a team from scratch, they would choose Ohtani over Soto. However, if the Dominican maintains his current level, he could change that perception and establish himself as the best pure hitter in the National League.

Shohei Ohtani vs Juan Soto

The comparison between Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto will continue to fuel the debate in MLB. While Ohtani represents versatility and consistency, Soto is proving that he can be the offensive face of a franchise. If his redemption continues, the Mets could have the most influential player of the season on their hands.
