Shohei Ohtani smashes 1,000th MLB hit with monster home run while dominating on the mound

There’s nothing Shohei Ohtani can’t do, the MLB phenomenon who continues to prove why he’s an unprecedented player and keeps dazzling fans with his talent. On Wednesday, the Japanese star reached 1,000 hits since arriving in the league in 2018.

In a game where his pitching was limited once again, Ohtani made history by becoming the third Japanese player to achieve at least 1,000 hits in the Majors, following Ichiro Suzuki (3,089) and Hideki Matsui (1,253).

Shohei Ohtani’s monstrous home run

Ohtani hit his 39th home run of the year during the Los Angeles Dodgers‘ matchup against the St. Louis Cardinals, but what’s most impressive is that he did so while still performing as a pitcher.

Over four innings of work, he recorded eight strikeouts and lowered his ERA to 2.37 for the season. With his 440-foot blast, he climbed to third place in MLB among home run leaders, trailing only Cal Raleigh and Kyle Schwarber.

Within the Dodgers organization, four active players have reached the 1,000-hit milestone in MLB. Ohtani joined this elite list alongside Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Dominican Teoscar Hernández, who achieved the milestone earlier this year.

As a pitcher, the Japanese star concluded his day on the mound by striking out the final three batters he faced, issuing no walks, and, best of all, dispelling any doubts about his early exit in his previous start.
