Shohei Ohtani is more than just an athlete – the numbers behind the Los Angeles Dodgers star are simply mind-blowing

Many sports fans sometimes fail to fully grasp what Shohei Ohtani is achieving in MLB, especially because he was already a phenomenon when he arrived, yet he seems to have no limits and continues to improve with each passing season. This season, as he continues his journey, he’s breaking one record after another.

Shohei Ohtani’s numbers are one-of-a-kind

During the first game of a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, Shohei Ohtani hit his 30th home run, in a campaign where he continues to excel in other key offensive categories as well.

In each of the last five seasons, the Japanese star has hit at least 30 home runs, recorded 10 or more stolen bases, and notched 5 or more triples. This record becomes even more remarkable when you consider that no other player in MLB history has achieved this feat for more than three consecutive seasons.

For context, Aaron Judge, in his 10th MLB season, only managed 10 or more stolen bases in 2022 and 2024, with 16 and 10, respectively. As for triples, he has never had a season with five, unlike the Japanese star. This highlights the importance of looking at other statistics beyond home runs.

Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers’ stars in the All-Star Game

As the MLB season approaches its midpoint, the Los Angeles Dodgers will have three starters in the All-Star Game: first baseman Freddie Freeman, catcher Will Smith, and designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, who is likely to be one of the most spotlighted players in the game.
