Shilo Sanders gets owned by Buccaneers teammate who exposes his flaws to coaching staff

Being the son of Deion Sanders has its pros and cons. It came with having a fruitful and fulfilling childhood, but it also came with unfair expectations on the football field. All of Shedeur Sanders, Shilo Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr. know all about that, but they’ve tried to carve out their own path along the way.

Shedeur looks to be in the best position to succeed in the NFL, but Shilo isn’t too far off. Despite going undrafted in the most recent edition, the safety was quickly scooped up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He’s been hard at work trying to impress the coaching staff before the preseason begins, but it’s hard to do that when there’s a Hall of Fame wide receiver making you look bad in practice.

Shilo Sanders says Mike Evans is giving him fits during Tampa Bay practices

While doing a live stream, Sanders was asked by a subscriber who the toughest receiver he’s gone up against during practice has been. Unequivocally, it’s been Mike Evans.

“Bro, y’all know Mike Evans over there, right? Y’all know we practice against Mike Evans every day.“

At 6-foot-5 and a lock to be a Hall of Famer, it’s no surprise Evans has been Sanders’ hardest player to defend. All-Pro cornerbacks can’t even compete with the wideout, so it’s no surprise Sanders can’t either.

Sanders was also very complimentary of quarterback Baker Mayfield, who he claims has avoided turnovers very well when Sanders is on the other side.

“He will not throw me that ball, man. He will not throw me that ball. He is a good quarterback. I promise he will not throw me that ball.“

Mayfield had a career year in 2024, making the Pro Bowl for the second-consecutive season and throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. He did throw a league-high 16 interceptions, though, so it sounds like he may be working on limiting those turnovers in Bucs practice.

Either that or Sanders has been slow to react to Mayfield’s passes, which wouldn’t be surprising given that he’s a rookie. Sanders still has a lot to learn, but he’s getting crucial reps for his development by going up against Mayfield and Evans.
