Shilo Sanders’s time in the NFL was as brief as it was controversial. The young cornerback missed the cut and made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ 53-man roster at the end of August, but that’s not a problem, he’s already found a new team… sort of.
Sanders’ journey since leaving the Colorado Buffaloes in the NCAA is well documented. Although he wasn’t considered a top prospect, everyone expected him to have a spot in the 2025 NFL Draft.
To everyone’s surprise, Shilo slipped through the cracks and went undrafted. However, once the bitter pill was over, he managed to sign as an undrafted free agent with the Buccaneers.
Despite his efforts, young Sanders failed to make the team and lost his contract before the regular season began. However, everything seems to indicate that he has found a new team, although not the one his fans were hoping for.
What is Shilo Sanders’s new team?
In a video shared by Buffaloes content creator @JaKiTruth, Sanders can be seen alongside content creator DJ Yoyo reading messages from internet users. The snippet is part of a live stream Shilo made on his Twitch channel.
“Who am I playing for now? What team am I on now?” Shilo reads, while a woman behind him fixes his hair. “The Canton Texas Sanders,” Shilo reads aloud, causing laughter from everyone present.
The name of the supposed team alludes to the 29,000-square-foot ranch owned by Shilo’s father, NFL icon Deion Sanders, in the Texas town of the same name.
Shilo’s true chances
Beyond the joke, Shilo’s chances at the moment seem slim. An NFL team seeing its roster thin could extend him a contract, but at the moment that doesn’t seem likely.
For some time, analysts speculated that he could sign with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts. The team holds the rights to his contract, but Shilo doesn’t seem very interested in moving to Canada.
Although young Sanders’ career is far from over, he has a tough road ahead if he wants to return to professional football, whether in the NFL or in Canada.
