The battle continues in Cleveland, where – aside from Joe Flacco – all of the team’s quarterbacks have suffered injuries. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski has yet to name Flacco the starter. Still, it won’t be long before that news breaks, as the team needs to make a decision soon.
Joe Flacco is the only quarterback with experience in Stefanski’s system, having joined the Browns at the end of the 2023 season. With four wins and 13 touchdowns in his last five games, he managed to lead the team to the playoffs. So, it’s just a matter of time before the announcement is made.
Kenny Pickett had been gaining momentum – even Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson said Stefanski preferred Pickett – but his hamstring injury has likely derailed his chances. As for the rookies, Dillon Gabriel has received the most attention and the most opportunities, while Shedeur Sanders is practically being forgotten.
Former NFL quarterback believes Browns will trade Shedeur Sanders
Sanders has reportedly had impressive performances during practice sessions, according to various sources. Still, he has not been given the chance to practice with the first-team offense – something Dillon Gabriel has done. Despite some recent struggles, the rookie from the Oregon Ducks has been able to work closely with the Browns.
Last Saturday, while Gabriel was running with the starters, Shedeur Sanders reported “arm soreness,” causing him to miss a critical opportunity. That could cost him even more, especially considering how uncertain his future with the team now seems.
Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert believes this situation has put Sanders’ place on the Browns in jeopardy: “This is what they do before a trade,” he posted.
The truth is that despite social media videos showing Sanders throwing solid passes, he remains the only quarterback who hasn’t been given a real shot. It’s likely that the idea of joining another team has already crossed his mind. The saga of Deion Sanders’ son seems to have many more chapters to come.
