Shedeur Sanders will be the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns from Week 1, but the reason is the lack of confidence in the rest

The ongoing saga with the Cleveland Browns continues, and surely, we’re not even halfway through-it feels like a new chapter unfolds every day. The battle for the starting quarterback position on Kevin Stefanski’s team is without a doubt the most closely followed storyline right now, largely thanks to Shedeur Sanders being on the roster.

Historically, the Cleveland Browns are a team known for making poor decisions at the quarterback position. Even when they had a good one, like Baker Mayfield, they let him go and paid $230 million-fully guaranteed-to Deshaun Watson, who has turned out to be a total failure.

While Baker Mayfield is finding success with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Browns are left with Deshaun Watson (injured) and four other quarterbacks, none of whom is a clear starter: veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, as well as two rookies from the recent Draft, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.

Shedeur Sanders could be the Browns’ starter, according to a prediction

Currently, there are five quarterbacks on the Cleveland Browns’ roster, and Kevin Stefanski will have to make tough decisions-there’s no room for all of them, so whatever the Head Coach decides will have major consequences.

Some analysts predict Joe Flacco will be the starter, others say Kenny Pickett, and some suggest Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel. But analyst Domonique Foxworth made an interesting prediction about who will start for the Browns in Week 1.

“Shedeur Sanders will be the Browns’ starting quarterback when the season begins,” said Foxworth. “I think they want to know what they have in Shedeur or Gabriel before the season ends, because there’s a chance they’ll be near the top of the draft board again next year for a strong quarterback class. I think they’ll move quickly to get those guys on the field and see what kind of players they are.”

This is interesting because if Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders don’t work out, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett aren’t real answers either. And the upcoming NFL Draft features some major talents-one confirmed is Drew Allar from Penn State, and potentially Arch Manning, if he declares. So this prediction carries weight: test Shedeur or Gabriel early, and if they’re not the solution, target a quarterback in next year’s class.

Let’s not forget that Sanders is coming off a great season-he threw for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and completed 74% of his passes in his final year at Colorado, leading the Big 12 in all those categories.
