Although no final verdict has been given on who will be the starting quarterback, all members of the Cleveland Browns‘ quarterback room are working with a dynamic that offers clues about what might happen, with Shedeur Sanders potentially being the least favored heading into the start of the season.
One only needs to observe how the team’s offensive drills are distributed during training camp to draw concrete conclusions.
Shedeur Sanders, the least favored in the early stages of training
Tuesday’s practice began with a rotation of Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders, in that exact order, according to Sports Illustrated. The session started with passing drills, followed by 7-on-7 work, where the quarterbacks were split between rookies and veterans, similar to what occurred in the spring.
In the 11-on-11 plays, the setup mirrored the minicamp. Kenny Pickett led the first-team offense, Dillon Gabriel handled the second team, and Sanders was in charge of the third team, while Joe Flacco observed closely.
The results were strong for Pickett, who completed six of seven attempts combined between the 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills, with Gabriel matching his performance.
On the other hand, Sanders had his most inconsistent day throwing the ball, struggling to read the field and arriving late on several of his passes.
Kevin Stefanski addressed the quarterback situation without revealing who will lead the offense, saying, “The big thing for me is putting our guys in position where we can evaluate them. I think they did a great job in the spring. All four of those guys. We’ll continue to put them in some situations. But ultimately we’d love to make a decision sooner than later,” he told the press.
