Sanders was selected by the Browns in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft – a bold move that signals just how desperate Cleveland is to finally secure a long-term answer under center.
After years of inconsistency, injuries, and a revolving door of quarterbacks, the franchise is now turning to the highly-touted prospect to stabilize their offense and, potentially, their future.
The buzz surrounding Sanders isn’t just hype. During his time at Colorado, he showed elite arm talent, pocket presence, and an NFL-caliber football IQ. His leadership and composure in high-pressure situations made him one of the most intriguing quarterback prospects in recent memory.
High expectations and higher pressure in Cleveland
However, not everyone is convinced the transition to the NFL will be seamless. Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier recently voiced his skepticism, stating on The Ringer NFL Show that Sanders is stepping into one of the league’s toughest situations.
“The Browns are desperate, man. They need a guy who can carry the franchise, and that’s a lot to ask of a rookie,” Shazier said.
Still, the Browns’ front office appears fully committed to building around Sanders, giving him first-team reps in OTAs and reportedly tailoring their offense to suit his strengths. For a city that’s been starved of quarterback stability since the days of Bernie Kosar, the arrival of Shedeur Sanders brings hope – but also enormous pressure.
