Shedeur Sanders’ teammate receives a worrying update on his injury that will prevent him from helping the Browns

The Cleveland Browns face another setback on defense, as linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, a Pro Bowl honoree in 2023, remains sidelined following a devastating neck injury sustained against the Baltimore Ravens in October 2024, leaving fans anxious.

The 26-year-old was carted off the field after a collision with running back Derrick Henry, missing the remainder of that season and the entire 2025 campaign, and while expectations were high for a return, recent updates suggest he may not play again.

The hit left Koramoah with a compressed neck, prompting medical staff to act quickly, and although he retained full limb function and was released after overnight evaluation, the severity of the injury limited him to eight games in 2024.

“But we do note that he’s in good spirits and will continue to take the advice of the world-class medical experts who will continue to guide his progress and recovery,” General Manager, Andrew Berry, added.

After being placed on injured reserve, the Browns confirmed in May 2025 that Koramoah would miss the season, a cruel turn after a breakout 2023 campaign that earned him 101 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a Pro Bowl nod, prompting a contract extension in August 2024.

The three-year, $12.5 million deal includes $20 million in guarantees, and the linebacker is expected to earn $11.03 million this season, having amassed 308 tackles and eight sacks over four NFL campaigns, all while his career trajectory was abruptly halted.

“While I won’t suit up this season,” Owusu-Koramoah said. “I’m focused on what I can control-my healing, my mindset, and my faith. The body may rest, but the calling never sleeps. I’ve given my heart to this game.

“I don’t know what’s next, but I’ll continue trusting my medical team, serving the community, and backing my brothers on the field. Love always, JOK.”

Browns find hope in rookie standout Carson Schwesinger

Meanwhile, the Browns have welcomed a rising defensive star, UCLA product Carson Schwesinger, whose rookie season has offset some of the concerns caused by Owusu-Koramoah‘s absence, demonstrating elite production across multiple defensive categories.

Schwesinger recorded 156 tackles, eleven tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, nine quarterback hits, two interceptions, and three passes defended in 2025, unmatched by any rookie linebacker since 1999, and earning him the 2025 Rookie Defensive Player of the Year award.

While Owusu-Koramoah‘s uncertain future leaves a defensive void, Schwesinger‘s emergence provides the team with confidence, allowing Cleveland to navigate potential roster moves while awaiting medical updates and preparing for the draft and free agency.

With the offseason approaching, the Browns will need to carefully manage their defensive depth, and while the loss of a cornerstone like Owusu-Koramoah is concerning, the team’s young talent offers hope for continuity and resilience.
