Shedeur Sanders’ surprising choice of the best NFL quarterback-receiver duo in history leaves everyone on the show confused

In the NFL a good quarterback must always have a good receiver to have confidence when throwing and over the years many of these couples have established themselves as legends. There are couples that played together for many years, such as Joe Montana and Jerry Rice or Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison; there are also those that last a short time, such as Tom Brady and Randy Moss or Tony Romo and Terrell Owens. This discussion is one of taste although statistics help but it’s hard to decide the best one, on Maxx Crosby’s podcast“The rush”Shedeur Sanders was asked about his favorites, surprising everyone with his answer.

Sanders’ Mount Rushmore” of QB-Receiver Duos

Shedeur Sanders dropped jaws during his “The Rush” appearance, taped before the NFL Draft where he was picked 144th overall by the Cleveland Browns. When pressed for his “Mount Rushmore” of QB-receiver duos, he went with safe bets like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, plus Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Then came the curveballs: Derek Carr and Chris Olave (WHAT?) and the “Whoever’s going to be the quarterback for DK Metcalf and George Pickens,” he said with a grin, hinting at a future Steelers pairing.

This was pre-draft, before he was drafted by the Browns, before Pittsburgh landed Aaron Rodgers or traded Pickens to Dallas, fueling speculation Sanders had insider buzz-though he was also projected for the Steelers. His nod to Derek Carr and Chris Olave, a less heralded duo, added to the bewilderment, leaving hosts and fans wondering what drew him to that pick.

Comparing the Duos: Stats and Legacy

Let’s break down Sanders’ choices. Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, over 143 games together in New England and Tampa Bay, racked up 7,819 yards and 92 touchdowns, boasting a 116-27 record and a 99.2 passer rating-key to four Super Bowl wins. Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, in 113 games, combined for 8,149 yards and 73 touchdowns, with a 75-38 record and a 103.4 rating, highlighted by a 2021 MVP season before Adams’ trade.

Derek Carr and Chris Olave, still early with 32 games, have 2,258 yards and 14 touchdowns, a 15-17 record, and an 88.6 rating-solid but unproven. Sanders’ self-insert with Metcalf and Pickens is pure speculation, but Pickens’ 2,898 yards and 18 touchdowns with various QBs in 47 games suggest potential with Dak Prescott in Dallas. These stats show Brady-Gronk’s dominance, Rodgers-Adams’ precision, and Carr-Olave’s growth, while Sanders’ wild card pick reflects his bold vision over hard data.
