Shedeur Sanders suffers another defeat, Quinn Ewers wins the battle against the now Cleveland Browns quarterback

Miami Dolphins General Manager, Chris Grier, assured in a press conference after the NFL Draft that at one point he considered selecting Shedeur Sanders, who was ultimately chosen by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, in an event that was undoubtedly agonizing for Deion Sanders’ media-savvy son.

The Miami Dolphins passed on Sanders and ended up selecting Quinn Ewers, former quarterback of the Texas Longhorns, in the seventh round. Ewers will compete for the backup quarterback spot with Zach Wilson, after he was signed at the beginning of free agency from the Denver Broncos.

The Dolphins are excited about Quinn Ewers

The former Texas Longhorns quarterback could undoubtedly have an opportunity to rise with the Miami Dolphins, especially since the team’s starting quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, has been plagued by injuries, particularly concussions. Last season alone, Tua missed six games.

Dolphins General Manager, Chris Grier, explained the reasoning behind selecting Ewers, much of it related to comments made by Steve Sarkisian, Head Coach of the Texas Longhorns.

“Sark really likes him and had a high opinion of him, talking about how he played despite injuries this year, which affected his performance a bit,” Grier said about Ewers. “But [Sarkisian] spoke about his strength, his mental toughness to push through the injury, the expectations, all the pressure with [Arch] Manning coming in.”

“He loved his competitiveness, how he plays, and how his teammates respond to him. So, he was someone we’ve always been interested in, and the opportunity at that point in the draft made a lot of sense for us.”

Grier and Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel were present at Texas’ Pro Day, where they closely followed Ewers and kept a low profile, making little noise about it. In the end, they achieved their goal, and with a late-round pick, they secured the quarterback to add depth to the position.
