Shedeur Sanders’ speeding tickets has other athletes confessing to their own infractions

Shedeur Sanders has been in the news lately, and not for sports reasons. After he stole the headlines for his speeding ticket, it wouldn’t have been the first one this month.

The first ticket he received in Ohio was on June 5 according to a filing in Medina Municipal Court. Sanders was traveling 91 mph in Brunswick Hills, a 65 mph zone. He was then stopped by Strongsville police on June 17 for driving 41 miles per hour over the posted limit (60 miles per hour). As if that wasn’t enough, he also failed to appear in court on either ticket.

This, in addition to stirring up controversy among Cleveland Browns and fans, also uncovered a confession from a Denver Broncos and NBA legend who experienced a similar situation as the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback.

Two tickets in one night

Shannon Sharpe wasn’t a rookie like Shedeur when he was pulled over for speeding, he was in his third year in the league. On one such night, police caught the Hall of Famer driving 108 mph in a 60 mph zone.

Ten minutes later, however, he was caught again driving 92 mph, earning Sharpe two tickets in one night.

Looking back on it, Shannon revealed, “So, speeding, I get it. It’s something about speeding and young people. You got a lead foot. I got a lead foot.”

“I’m the only one who gets pulled over”

Another story that was revealed was that of NBA star Joe Johnson. During his time in Atlanta, he and some of his teammates were traveling over 100 mph on the freeway.

When the police got their attention, only Joe was pulled over. However, he recognized him and was sympathetic to him.

“Them Challengers had just come out. I had one, Jeff Teague had one, and Josh Smith had one. So we get back to Atlanta one night off the road, about 2 a.m. in the morning. We’re on 285, tan and rolled up,” Joe began.

Then, he continued, “Man, I’m the only one who gets pulled over. We always over 100. I had a black police officer pull me over, and he knew who I was. He gave me some grace. I was very respectful,” he finished.

However, both agreed that carrying the Sanders name was not a burden they had, let alone competing among four candidates for the starting job as is the case with Shedeur.

With Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel vying to be the Browns’ QB1, this situation could hurt him, as it is not the first time he has been fined or had his name highlighted in controversy.
