It is possible that Shedeur Sanders is the first quarterback — and the first player — selected during April’s NFL Draft. The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Deion Sanders lit up collegiate defenses for four years under his dad’s tutelage — and soon, Shedeur will get the spotlight shone solely on him as he begins his pro career.
Of course, no one knows where Shedeur’s NFL career will kick off, and Deion has made it clear that he is willing to intervene in order to steer his 22-year-old son toward a “preferable” destination. In the weeks leading up to the draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, are fans starting to see the first signs of Shedeur’s discontent with this approach?
Shedeur doesn’t want Deion “getting hurt”
In a video posted to his YouTube channel on Monday, Shedeur revealed that while he will be working out on his own in preparation for the draft, Deion will not be catching his passes — specifically, because Shedeur doesn’t want his father to be hurt by one of his deliveries!
“I would have had dad catch but I didn’t want to hurt him,” Shedeur explained. “He wouldn’t be catching and it would make me mad.”
The bond between Shedeur and Deion does appear as strong as ever, and given how many quarterback-needy teams are situated atop the draft board, the Sanders family could have their pick and use their leverage to put Shedeur in his preferred home.
While the Tennessee Titans have toyed with the idea of selecting Shedeur first overall, the Cleveland Browns (picking second), the New York Giants (picking third), and the Las Vegas Raiders (sixth) have all been linked strongly with the former Colorado signal-caller as well.
