Shedeur Sanders’ performance against the 49ers receives a “B” from a Super Bowl champion

Shedeur Sanders couldn’t prevent the Cleveland Browns from losing at home, falling 26-8 to the San Francisco 49ers, but this result doesn’t tell the whole story.

The 23-year-old quarterback played his second game as a starter and his first at FirstEnergy Stadium. With a temperature of 30 degrees, wind gusts of over 40 mph, and an opponent that would not forgive a mistake, the rookie’s performance was graded a “B“, according to a Super Bowl XLV champion.

James Jones evaluated and graded Sanders against the 49ers

During the Week 12 game, Sanders completed 16 of 25 passes for 149 yards, no interceptions, and a passer rating of 93.6. Added to his performance was a touchdown to Harold Fanning Jr., which gave the team a temporary lead, but it was the first and only time the Browns managed to score points.

The second half of the game was the most difficult for Shedeur, where he completed 8 of 14 passes for 53 yards, but special teams and situational failures further complicated matters for the QB and the Browns.

After the game, former Green Bay Packers player James Jones appeared on Speakeasy, where he reflected on the performance of Deion Sanders’ son and rated his performance: “I’m going to give him a B,” he began.

“The game doesn’t look too big for him… it already looks like it’s slowed down for Shedeur. He’s picking up all the protections. It’s not like people are just running free after he got the starting job. He just looks like he’s cool, calm, and collected in the pocket,” he added.

Jones continued to praise Sanders, noting that the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback has not yet received the complete playbook, justifying his decision to extend some plays to “make something happen.” Of course, he did not overlook Shedeur’s difficulties, especially the missed opportunity to connect with Jerry Jeudy down the middle and his need to “make up for” those poorly executed passes.

However, with a 1-1 record as a starter, Kevin Stefanski has already announced that Sanders will start against Cam Ward’s Tennessee Titans. It will certainly be interesting to see how the two highest-rated quarterbacks from the last draft match up.
