It was a crazy night at Cleveland Browns Stadium after one of the biggest surprises of the season so far. The Browns pulled off an improbable 13-10 comeback victory in the final quarter against the Green Bay Packers, one of the top contenders in the NFC.
When the score was 10-3, Grant Delpit intercepted Jordan Love, giving the Browns a chance to get back into the game. On that drive, Quinshon Judkins scored his first NFL touchdown to tie things up.
Even then, a comeback seemed unlikely. But Cleveland’s defense stepped up when Shelby Harris blocked a field goal attempt by Green Bay’s Brandon McManus, giving the Browns another shot they wouldn’t waste. Andre Szmyt drilled a 55-yard field goal as time expired to seal the win.
Joe Flacco will remain the Browns’ starting quarterback
Despite the victory, Joe Flacco’s performance was once again underwhelming. The 18-year veteran threw for just 142 yards, with one interception – a poor showing. Still, the unlikely win appears to have secured him at least one more week as the starter.
On social media, while the Browns were still scoreless and the offense showed no spark, fans were calling for Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders. Had Cleveland lost, Kevin Stefanski might have been forced to make some tough decisions. But as is often the case, a win changes everything.
According to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN, “Stefanski says he’s sticking with Flacco at QB for Week 4.” So at least for the Browns’ next game, on the road against the Detroit Lions, Flacco will remain the starter. Still, time is running out – and it seems only a matter of time before Dillon Gabriel takes control of the offense.
