The quarterback saga continues at the Cleveland Browns’ camp, even though on Monday afternoon’s unofficial depth chart, Joe Flacco was listed as the team’s starting quarterback. However, Head Coach Kevin Stefanski has not commented on this decision.
Joe Flacco was placed as the starting quarterback, followed by Kenny Pickett as second, Dillon Gabriel as third, and at the very bottom, Shedeur Sanders. To make things worse, the Browns signed Tyler Huntley-mainly because Pickett and Gabriel are dealing with hamstring injuries. So now, including Deshaun Watson, the Browns have six quarterbacks on the roster.
There’s a reason why the Cleveland Browns are the most dysfunctional team in the NFL. When you have problems at the quarterback position, it often means everything else is going wrong too-and in most cases, that’s exactly what happens. Right now, the Browns have an uncertain future.
Dillon Gabriel is not an NFL quarterback
The Cleveland Browns grabbed attention by selecting two rookie quarterbacks in the last Draft. The first was Dillon Gabriel, picked in the third round, and the second was Shedeur Sanders, taken with the fifth pick. The competition between them has not been fair-Gabriel has received more attention from Head Coach Kevin Stefanski.
However, recent reports from the Browns’ camp say that Dillon Gabriel hasn’t looked good. But maybe that’s Stefanski’s plan-to watch him develop through multiple reps. Browns analyst Daryl Ruiter said Gabriel is not an NFL quarterback.
“He’s not an NFL quarterback. Not right now. He’s rolling out and can’t hit guys wide open. At times, he’s not that good in the warmup periods.”
The truth is, this isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that Dillon Gabriel was taken in the third round of the Draft-something no one expected. Only Stefanski knows why Gabriel was selected, and he’s clearly giving him a lot of opportunities. However, the injury he’s currently dealing with will likely set him back.
