There’s no doubt that Shedeur Sanders is going through a very difficult time with the Cleveland Browns. Right now, he’s the team’s fourth option at quarterback and it’s highly unlikely he’ll get an opportunity during the regular season. Anything can happen-surely fans will push for him to play-but the projection for opportunity is minimal for Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders is currently the last of four quarterbacks on the Browns’ depth chart. Just this Wednesday, he had a few snaps against the first-team defense, but he hasn’t yet had the chance to train with the first-team offense. That’s a clear sign that his opportunities are limited.
All signs point to one of the two experienced quarterbacks starting for the Browns, and Joe Flacco appears to have the clear advantage. Flacco is heading into his 18th NFL season and already played for the Browns in 2023, performing well-leading the team to four wins in their last five games and a playoff berth.
Shedeur Sanders could end up with the Indianapolis Colts
Shedeur Sanders was once projected to be a first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft. However, he slid all the way to the fifth round, and that’s hurting his chances now. He’s expected to play during the preseason, and if he performs well, he could generate interest from other NFL teams.
If that happens, the Browns would likely prefer to keep him. However, former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel believes Cleveland should consider trading Shedeur Sanders, and one potential destination could be the Indianapolis Colts.
“If he goes out there and does something like he did today-nine for nine, two touchdowns-the other 32 teams are watching,” Samuel said on his podcast. “Oh man, this might be the first time in history we see something strange, like a team trying to trade for him-like the Indianapolis Colts.”
Currently, the Colts also have a quarterback battle going on. It seems Daniel Jones is starting to gain the upper hand over Anthony Richardson, a former first-round pick from a couple of years ago who, so far, has been a complete disappointment.
