Shedeur Sanders could get major help from Philadelphia Eagles in Cleveland Browns quarterback competition

As we near July, there is still a ton of ambiguity when it comes to what the Cleveland Browns are going to do at quarterback. There are signs pointing to both veterans (Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco) holding off the rookies (Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders), at least to start the season.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski has lot to decipher. In order to make a decision, he will need as much information as possible. Performance in practice is one thing, but going up against other teams will be the real deciding factor. In a way, that could benefit Gabriel and Sanders more than the veterans.

Browns and Eagles to hold joint practices on August 13 and 14 in Philadelphia

It was confirmed on Thursday that the Eagles will in fact host the Browns for joint practices right before the season begins. There will be two joint practices, held on August 13 and 14. That will lead into their preseason game on August 16.

Going up against the defending champions will be the perfect litmus test for Cleveland’s quarterbacks. By that point, the competition will be tightly contested. It could separate the contenders from the pretenders, which could be bad news for all of the Browns signal-callers, but especially for Pickett and Flacco. Both veterans will more than likely go up against the Eagles’ first team defense, which is one of the best units in the league.

With Stefanski watching how his offense operates against an elite defense, if it goes wrong for Pickett and Flacco, it could open the door for Gabriel or Sanders. Sanders will probably be going up against Philadelphia’s backups, which could give him the chance to impress and re-open the starting quarterback door.
