Since joining the Cleveland Browns, Shedeur Sanders has been a bright spot, delivering on the promise he showed at Colorado with 4,134 passing yards and 37 touchdowns in his final college season. However, the Browns’ quarterback position has been unstable since 1999, with 40 different starters, including Deshaun Watson and the three others from last year who won’t return in 2025. With training camp approaching (July 18 for rookies and July 22 for veterans), Coach Kevin Stefanski must navigate a crowded quarterback room.
Kenny Pickett has an advantage, having started two seasons in Pittsburgh and won a Super Bowl ring as an Eagles backup. Joe Flacco, in his 18th year, could settle into the No. 2 spot, leaving rookies like Sanders and Dillon Gabriel to compete for the top position. As the August 8 preseason opener against the Panthers approaches, the question remains: Will Sanders make his NFL debut with the Browns?
Bills Emerge as Potential Landing Spot for Sanders
Trade whispers are heating up, and the Buffalo Bills have surfaced as a prime destination for Shedeur Sanders. According to Dawg Pound Daily’sMark Sipos, Cleveland might move the former Colorado star before he sees regular-season action, given the stiff competition. Rather than cutting him, a trade could net the Browns some value. Sipos suggests Buffalo as a fit, where Josh Allen is cemented as the starter and Mitchell Trubisky serves as the veteran backup.
“Sanders could be a low-risk, high-reward addition, learning behind Allen in a structured system,” Sipos wrote. “The Bills’ coaches could polish his timing and decision-making in a pressure-free setting.” While this would delay Sanders’ playing time-Allen’s locked in for the next decade-it could be a goldmine for his growth, soaking up wisdom from an MVP.
Rams Also in the Mix for Sanders’ Services
Another team involved in trade talks is the Los Angeles Rams, who are Super Bowl hopefuls with 20-1 odds according to ESPN Bet. The team is led by 17-year veteran Matthew Stafford. Also according to Dawg Pound Daily, the Rams are the “best trade fit,” with Jimmy Garoppolo re-signed as Stafford’s backup and no clear successor in sight.
“Sanders could learn the ins and outs of Sean McVay’s playbook behind Stafford, easing into a potential starting role later,” the outlet noted. His quick-release style suits the scheme, and there would be no need to rush him into action.
With the 2025 NFL trade deadline set for November 4 at 4 p.m. ET, no moves are imminent. However, the Browns’ unique situation, with four QBs vying for spots, keeps the door open. GM Andrew Berry has hinted at keeping all four if they impress. This makes Sanders’s fate a waiting game.
