After Joe Flacco made it clear that he’s not going to be a mentor to either Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel, it seems like the ex-Buffaloes QB is trying to win over the 17-year NFL veteran.
During the Browns’ organized team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp, multiple interactions between Flacco and Sanders have been posted on social media, and in most of them, it appears that Sanders is a breath of fresh air for the 40-year-old QB.
Sanders and Flacco bonding
At first, we saw Sanders asking Flacco if he had “ever hit that dance move?” while dancing during OTAs. Now, on the first day of mandatory minicamp, we see both of them laughing and having a chat. In the background, a solitary Dillon Gabriel can be seen watching.
Maybe that was a reflection of his performance at minicamp. He had a lower completion rate than both Sanders and Pickett – Joe Flacco didn’t participate in any snaps, according to ESPN Cleveland.
Gabriel completed 7 of 18 passes, Sanders went 10 for 12, and Pickett 6 for 10. Gabriel also had the fewest touchdowns, throwing just one, while the former Colorado QB threw two and the ‘vet’ threw three.
Early signs suggest Sanders is settling in quickly, even earning smiles from a veteran like Flacco. Gabriel, on the other hand, may need more time to find his footing as the competition in the QB room quietly intensifies.
