Shedeur Sanders and Browns-Bengals game interrupted by flying sex toy

In an unexpected and unusual turn of events, a green sex toy was thrown onto the field during the Cleveland Browns‘ season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday.

The event occurred in the second quarter of the game. A bright green object was hurled from the stands, landing on the turf as the Bengals approached the red zone.

Game officials promptly responded, with one referee calmly retrieving the item and tossing it to the sideline, where it was later removed by security personnel.

The incident did not disrupt the game’s flow, and play continued without further interruption.

Symptom of a growing trend

This incident is part of a broader and increasingly bizarre trend in sports venues. Earlier this year, similar objects were thrown onto courts during WNBA games, leading to arrests and public outcry.

In one notable case, a 23-year-old man was charged with disorderly conduct and public indecency after tossing an object onto the court during a game between the Golden State Valkyries and the Atlanta Dream.

Later, a self-described cryptocurrency enthusiast admitted to ESPN that the bizarre occurrence was the act of a group that allegedly used these stunts to market a crypto coin it created, exploiting the WNBA’s visibility and ongoing controversies.

The trend has also been observed in NFL preseason games.

During a preseason matchup between the Tennessee Titans and the Minnesota Vikings, where a green sex toy was thrown onto the field, prompting officials to remove it swiftly.

The NFL has not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

Intense action on the field

Beyond the unusual distractions, the Browns and Bengals engaged in a tightly contested matchup.

Both teams demonstrated they were eager to start the season on a strong note, refusing to yield easy victories to one another.

Cleveland entered the game after a disappointing 3-14 campaign in 2024, turning to 40-year-old quarterback Joe Flacco to lead the offense.

Many analysts predicted Cincinnati, fresh off a strong roster and riding the momentum of a young, dynamic team, would dominate the game.

Early on, it appeared the Bengals might prove the pundits right, as they secured a 14-10 lead heading into halftime.

However, the Browns did not falter. Flacco connected with wide receiver Cedric Tillman on a short touchdown in the third quarter, giving Cleveland a 16-14 advantage.

While Cincinnati briefly reclaimed the lead, entering the fourth quarter ahead 17-16, the game remained a classic back-and-forth battle between two heated in-state rivals.

The Week 1 matchup underscored both teams’ determination to improve upon past struggles.

Flacco‘s veteran presence helped stabilize the Browns‘ offense, while the Bengals demonstrated resilience despite being briefly overtaken.
