The expectation for the possible fight between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford will be a topic of conversation until they get into the ring, if an agreement is confirmed for September. While this is happening, boxers and experts are launching their analysis and predictions on who will be the winner of a fight that on paper looks uneven because of the weight difference.
The fight had already been agreed for September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, but it was later canceled, although it could still happen. For now, a former acquaintance of Crawford, Shakur Stevenson, jumped on the subject and gave his support, as he believes that Bud has the ability to beat Canelo.
During an interview with former boxer Andre Ward on the ‘All The Smoke Fight’ podcast, Stevenson predicted how Crawford’s victory will be summed up with a blunt phrase: “He beat him easily,” making it clear that he trusts the skills of the boxer who is unbeaten in 41 fights, with 31 wins by knockout.
Shakur Stevenson takes Floyd Mayweather as an example
After the bold prediction, Ward questioned Shakur about the way Crawford could achieve victory and he did not hesitate to share the strategy, recalling how Mayweather beat Canelo.
“For me, he’s already a role model. Floyd was much smaller than Canelo when he fought him. You keep Canelo out. I’m not even going to say too much, but you keep him out and make it an easy night,” Stevenson replied.
The recipe may be a guide, but Crawford already presented complications to beat Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds, and moving up to 168 to face Canelo will be a greater challenge, having to move up two divisions, so despite the fact that following in the footsteps of Money Mayweather may be a route, that strategy does not guarantee success.
