Serena Williams‘ acclaimed career has it all. However, away from the courts, she continues to shine and conquer new achievements in different fields.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner has been selected as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people once again and while she has every reason to be, there is one that places her on this prestigious list.

Although she has retired, sport is still present in her life, albeit in a different way. Williams continues to inspire and help athletes fulfill their dreams. She proved this when she became one of the owners of the Toronto Tempo team in March of this year.

“I fell in love with women’s basketball in particular because I think the athletes are just amazing and beautiful. I love Toronto. Some of my biggest wins have been in Toronto. I have some of my best memories there“, the tennis legend explained to TIME.

In the same dialogue, Williams went on to explain what it means to be part of Toronto Tempo: “It wasn’t just about a small cheque and me being like it’s a ‘name investment’ for me. It’s very meaningful to be a huge part of the ownership. This is a place I can be at, I can make decisions, and we can come up with who to hire as managers and how to run the team, etc. Obviously, as a designer, I have lots of really cool ideas. The way I innovated and designed in my sport, innovated how I looked as an athlete, I have some really fun ideas, but we will see which ones work.”

This team is the newest team in the WNBA and is expected to hit the courts in 2026. However, with the growing audience the league is achieving and Serena’s presence, the impact is expected to be even greater.

Serena Williams’ empire

In her time as a tennis player, she conquered seventy-three titles, 7 Olympic golds, and 39 Grand Slams: 23 singles, 14 in women’s doubles alongside Venus and 2 in mixed doubles alongside Max Mirnyi. Among other incredible feats.

When she hung up her racket, Serena turned to business, taking part in several projects. She ventured into the world of feminine beauty, launching her make-up and clothing brand.

She jumped into the big screen with “King Richard”, the movie that tells the life of Serena and Venus from the perspective of her father -played by Will Smith-, and launched her own production company, 926 Productions. Now she has announced that she will executive produce “Carrie Soto Is Back” in conjunction with Netflix.

But undoubtedly, her greatest pride are her daughters: Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. and Adira River Ohanian along with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, who awarded her the title of “GMOAT” -Greatest Mum Of All Time- after the announcement of the arrival of their second little girl.
