Serena Williams sparks comeback speculation after stunning transformation

Serena Williams, the 44-year-old tennis icon and mother of two, has once again captured attention with a striking Instagram post, fueling speculation about a potential return to the sport.

Williams posed in a flowing pastel pink silk slip dress, the ombre fabric fading to a soft butter yellow, complete with a square neckline and delicate spaghetti straps.

The tennis legend, who risked going braless, accessorized with layered gold necklaces and stacked bangles, captioning the post: “Mom, Founder, Entrepreneur, Chef to my kids, Wife and more…”

The post comes just weeks after Williams appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for GLP-1 weight-loss provider Ro.

In the ad, she detailed her staggering 31-pound weight loss, crediting the medication Zepbound for helping her regain control of her health after stepping back from professional tennis.

She revealed that the drug has reduced stress on her knees, stabilized her blood sugar, and lowered her cholesterol. Williams first turned to GLP-1 medication after struggling with weight management following the birth of her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017.

While the endorsement drew criticism online, labeling it as “disgusting,” Williams’ transformation has undeniably reignited conversation about her athletic future.

The former world No. 1, who retired following the 2022 US Open, has taken steps that suggest a potential on-court comeback.

Last year, she registered with the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s drug-testing pool, a prerequisite for returning to competitive play.

Djokovic’s comments intensify speculation of Williams’ return

Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic recently fueled these rumors, commenting on her potential comeback during a press conference ahead of the BNP Paribas Open.

“Everybody is excited, and it’s definitely something that’s very highly anticipated,” Djokovic said. “I think she’s coming back. I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to her, but I guess the sentiment is that she’s coming back. Where and how, singles, doubles, we don’t know, and if I’m in her position, I would hide it too.”

Adding weight to the speculation, Williams’ name remains on the ITIA reinstatement page as of February, with her eligible-to-return date listed as February 22.

Fans and analysts have interpreted this as a subtle hint that the tennis legend may be plotting a comeback, though no official announcement has been made.

Williams’ recent public appearances and social media posts, combined with her health transformation, suggest that she is in peak condition, both physically and mentally, to make a return.

Whether she will compete in singles, doubles, or select exhibition events remains uncertain, but her presence alone could significantly boost viewership and fan engagement in professional tennis.

As the tennis world watches closely, the prospect of Serena Williams stepping back onto the court continues to be one of the sport’s most highly anticipated potential comebacks.
