Serena Williams not so tough: tennis player ‘forgoes’ sleep over her daughters Olympia and Adira’s bad habit

Serena Williams may have retired from professional tennis in 2022, but her competitive spirit didn’t fade-it simply shifted toward a new challenge: motherhood.

And based on her recent social media posts, the 23-time Grand Slam champion is embracing the role with the same passion and grace that defined her career.

After dazzling on the red carpet at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Williams made a heartfelt pivot. Still dressed in her glittering eveningwear, she returned home and shared a quiet moment with her eldest daughter, Olympia.

“I try my best to pray every day with them no matter the circumstances. I slay and I pray,” she captioned the touching post of her bedtime routine.

And that devotion to parenting didn’t end there.

Sleepless nights and joyful moments

In a recent post on X, Williams gave fans a glimpse into the less glamorous-but deeply meaningful-side of motherhood.

“I am somehow being squished by a 7 year old and a 1 year old…. We have a big bed but I think I am their heater…I don’t have the heart to move them, so I just won’t sleep,” she wrote. Her admission was equal parts funny and tender, showing her willingness to sacrifice rest for the comfort of her daughters, Olympia and baby Adira.

The moment highlights Williams‘ deep bond with her children, which she’s spoken about openly. Earlier this year, she admitted, “I miss them so much when they sleep. That’s when I get really lonely. #mygirls.” That same vulnerability was echoed in a 2022 interview with Insider, when she confessed to struggling with “mom guilt” while balancing work and parenting.

“I always feel so guilty when I’m doing something on my own,” she said. “But I’m very hands-on with my daughter… After work, I’m going right to my daughter.”

Designing joy, one outfit at a time

Though motherhood is her focus, Williams hasn’t stepped away from the world of fashion. A longtime enthusiast who studied design in the early 2000s, she launched her own brand, S by Serena, and built a successful jewelry line. Now, she’s taken things a step further-by designing with her daughters in mind.

In collaboration with Janie and Jack, Williams recently released a vibrant new kidswear collection inspired by family, color, and play. One standout piece reimagines her own 1992 childhood tennis outfit as a two-piece set for little girls. “She’s a girly girl,” Williams said of Olympia. “She has a very eclectic type of style. She’s very innovative, and I love it.”

The line includes matching mommy-and-me outfits, swimwear, ombré prints, and designs for children up to age 12. It’s available both online and in Janie and Jack stores nationwide. “If I could describe this collection in one word, I think I would say ‘joy,'” Williams shared. “It’s very joyful, and that’s what I want to create.”

From red carpets to lullabies, and from center courts to children’s clothing racks, Serena Williams continues to redefine what greatness looks like.

She may no longer chase trophies, but in the eyes of her daughters-and the millions who admire her-she’s still the undisputed GOAT.
