Alexis Ohanian, husband of tennis legend Serena Williams, shared a personal health update that underscored his commitment to staying proactive about his health.
The Reddit co-founder revealed that he recently underwent surgery to remove part of his thyroid due to suspicious nodules that had been monitored for several years.
In a candid social media post, Ohanian explained his decision to move forward with the surgery after a biopsy revealed the nodules were likely to turn cancerous.
His proactive approach was influenced by his family history, particularly his late mother’s battle with breast and brain cancer.
“I wasn’t gonna take any chances,” Ohanian wrote. “The surgery was smooth, and I’m extra grateful this Thanksgiving because I got the call this morning that my now-removed half of the thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous.”
Following the successful procedure, Ohanian now carries a scar from the surgery-a mark he views with gratitude rather than trepidation.
When a follower suggested he come up with a story for the scar, Ohanian joked about enlisting his seven-year-old daughter, Olympia, for ideas.
“I can’t wait. Open to suggestions before I ask my 7-year-old to come up with something,” he noted.
A grateful Thanksgiving
This Thanksgiving holds special significance for Ohanian, who expressed immense gratitude for the successful surgery and the support of his loved ones.
With his wife Serena Williams and daughters Olympia and Adira River by his side, Ohanian can focus on recovery and family life.
Ohanian and Williams married in 2017 after two years of dating and share two daughters, Olympia, born shortly before their wedding, and Adira, born in August 2023.
While Serena has stepped away from tennis after her memorable run at the 2022 US Open, her sister Venus continues to compete, showcasing the family’s enduring spirit and resilience.
