Serena Williams is a tennis star who has stolen the spotlight in major WTA tournaments and is considered one of the greatest players in the sport’s history. Known for her powerful serve, aggressive baseline play, and unmatched athleticism, Serena dominated the court for decades. Now, she’s turning heads in a new arena, showcasing her skills in a different sport that’s quickly capturing widespread attention.

The tennis legend made a surprise appearance on social media, showcasing her basketball skills, enough to earn her an invitation to the upcoming training camp of the WNBA’s new franchise, the Toronto Tempo.

The news sparked excitement among fans and players alike, adding buzz and energy to the team’s early buildup. Her growing involvement in the basketball world has drawn attention, and many believe her presence could inspire young athletes across all sports.

From tennis to hoops: Serena Williams impresses a team of the WNBA

Serena Williams is a world-class athlete whose name resonates with sports fans around the globe. Her legacy extends far beyond the tennis court, redefining excellence and determination. For elite athletes, transitioning into other sports often comes naturally, as many of their skills are transferable.

This holds true for Serena Williams, who has brought her signature strength, agility, and precision from tennis to the basketball court. The buzz began after Williams posted a video on social media showing her shooting hoops on a basketball machine, effortlessly demonstrating her accuracy and coordination in front of the net.

However, Serena Williams herself didn’t feel it was an outstanding performance. She captioned the video, ‘Mini hoops, major flop. Thank goodness I picked up a racket instead of a basketball… Pops really understood the assignment.’ Despite her modest take, the video gained massive attention and ultimately earned her an invitation to the Toronto Tempo’s upcoming WNBA training camp.

The Canadian team, set to make its WNBA debut next season, praised the former tennis star in the comments of her video. “We’ll hold a spot for you at training camp!” wrote the Toronto Tempo on Serena Williams’ post, extending a playful yet enthusiastic invitation to the Grand Slam legend.

Set to play at the Coca-Cola Coliseum, the Toronto Tempo is owned by Larry Tanenbaum with tennis icon Serena Williams joining as co-owner. Williams’ involvement underscores her commitment to advancing women’s sports.

“I am thrilled to announce my ownership role in the first Canadian WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo,” declared Serena Williams, confirming her involvement with the franchise. Her entry into WNBA ownership marks a major milestone for the league and reflects her growing influence in professional sports.
