‘Fussball’ is in mourning. German footballer Sebastian Hertner (Leonberg, 1991) has died at the age of 34 after falling from a chairlift.

The central/left-back of ETSV Hamburg, from the fifth division, was skiing at the Savn Kuk resort in northern Montenegro when he fell about 70 meters to his death

According to ‘Bild’, one of the chairs came off the cable and gave way to the side where Hertner was sitting, who was an under-19 international with Germany. His wife was also seriously injured: she was trapped by the chair and broke her leg.“With great sadness we have to announce that our captain Sebastian Hertner had a fatal accident while on holiday. We are stunned and infinitely saddened. Our condolences to his family and loved ones. Rest in peace Sebastian,” announced his club, ETSV Hamburg.

In the altercation, which is under investigation, three other tourists were caught up in the incident. In addition, the temporary closure of the station has been ordered.

During his career, Hertner, a Stuttgart youth player, also played for Schalke (reserve team), 1860 Munich, Erzgebirge Aue, Darmstadt, Lubeck, Turkgucu Munchen, BFC Dynamo and Teutonia 05. He played 95 matches in the second division, but never made his debut in the top flight. Rest in peace.
