The Seattle Sounders board came up with a dynamic to promote their team’s jerseys and, incidentally, ‘despise’ the jerseys of Inter Miami with Messi’s No.10

In order to prevent pink from being the predominant color at Lumen Field in the Leagues Cup Final, the Seattle Sounders announced that fans wearing a Lionel Messi jersey could exchange it for a Paul Rothrock jersey, the ‘14‘ and standout Sounders player, at no extra cost.

The promotion had the desired effect, as according to various reports, more than 100 people took advantage of the opportunity and exchanged their Inter Miami jersey for that of the Seattle Sounders.

It is worth noting that it was Paul Rothrock who scored the decisive goal in the 3-0 victory over Inter Miami

Aggressive promotion against Inter Miami

Through its social networks, Seattle Sounders announced its promotion, which aims to support “local talent and Seattle’s soccer culture”.

The offer was activated for a limited time only, and the Seattle Sounders promoted it as a deal that seeks to “bring fans together and reinforce local pride as Seattle prepares to welcome global superstar Lionel Messi for the first time”

“Lionel Messi is one of the best players in history, but at Lumen Field, we support the Rave Green,” declared Hugh Weber, who is president of business operations for the Seattle Sounders.

“We want Lumen to express, be proud of and unequivocally support our club. There is no better time to support the local team as we look for a great international trophy,” said Hugh Weber.

This final represented a new attendance record for Lumen Field, which before the match had a total of 50,675 fans, already ensuring the best attendance in the history of the stadium.

Seattle Sounders win the Leagues Cup

Despite having Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo de Paul on the field, a luxury squad for Javier Mascherano, the Seattle Sounders imposed conditions early in the game, scoring the first goal in the 26th minute, a goal by Osaze De Rosario, which would condition the rest of the game

In the second half, Miami threw themselves into attack, leaving important spaces in defense that were taken advantage of by the Sounders to seal the match with a couple of goals, one from Alex Roldan and the other from Paul Rothrock.

The match ended with a historic achievement and a great afternoon for Seattle Sounders, although with a brawl starring Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez who could face considerable sanctions for their behavior.
