In the opening of the Little League Classic in Willamsport, the game was played between the Seattle Mariners and New York Mets, two teams with ample possibilities of qualifying for the MLB playoffs. In this symbolic event for the young exponents of baseball, there was a very significant moment between Dominican players Julio Rodriguez and Juan Soto.

It was the bottom of the third inning, where the New York team was in the lead by a score of 3-0 with men on first, second and one out. On this base was Juan Soto, who saw the deep hit by Logan McNeil, but without enough distance to send it to the other side of the fence. Soto tried to make the “tag up” play to get to third base, but in the end he regretted it and preferred to stay at second. Julio Rodriguez sent him the message on national television.

What did J-Rod say to Juan Soto?

After Logan’s out, Mariners right fielder Dominic Canzone threw a powerful shot to the second base where Juan Soto returned safely. When Julio Rodriguez saw that his compatriot did not dare to go to third base, he shouted: “Hey, go!” to which the metropolitan only responded with a gesture that he would not do it. Without a doubt, the Dominican did not visualize the power of Canzone’s arm and was exposed nationally.

The audios on the field have been possible once MLB has authorized with its official television network, through permission of the participating teams, to place microphones on certain players to interview them in the middle of the game or simply to know the dialogues between teammates or between rival players. That is why Julio Rodriguez’s invitation to Juan Soto: “Hey, go away” was clearly heard

New York Mets victory over Seattle Mariners

At the end of the nine innings, the New York team won by a score of 7-3, thus keeping them in the fight to conquer the National League East division, which is still in the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. The winning pitcher was Clay Holmes, while George Kirby had to take the loss.

Now, the New York Mets will travel to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Nationals, a very difficult series once the winning average for the Mets on the road has dropped to 41.2% while the DC team has a home effectiveness of 65.7% so close games are expected.
