Sean McVay rushes out of the stadium after the victory against the Lions to receive even better news

The Los Angeles Rams celebrated a huge Week 15 victory over the Detroit Lions, winning 41-34 in a back-and-forth thriller, but head coach Sean McVay made the win even more memorable by rushing out of the stadium for life-changing news.

The 39-year-old McVay left immediately after the game to pick up his wife, Veronika, and head to the hospital for the birth of their second son.

The couple had welcomed their first child, Jordan, in October 2023 and now expand their family in what is turning into one of the finest years of the head coach’s career in football.

“It’s actually going to leave the stadium, head home, pick up his wife Veronika, head to the hospital for the birth of their second son,” Fox Sports‘ Glazer said, highlighting the timing of this joyful personal milestone.

Rams continue elite play on the field

Off the field, McVay‘s Rams have been performing at an elite level, securing an 11-3 record and becoming the first NFC team to clinch a playoff berth. The victory keeps Los Angeles in contention for the NFC West crown heading into Week 16.

Their latest win comes after they put up 41 points against the NFC North‘s Detroit Lions, with quarterback Matthew Stafford throwing for 368 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception against the Lions.

Kyren Williams starred in the running game, putting up 78 yards and two scores on 15 carries with one reception for 10 yards, whilst Blake Corum added 71 yards and one trip to the end zone on 11 carries.

Wide receiver Puka Nacua enjoyed one of the most impressive games of the season as he made 181 yards on nine receptions, averaging 20.1 yards per catch. Colby Parkinson also added 75 yards on five receptions and two touchdowns.

Whilst the hurt Davante Adams made 71 yards on four receptions, despite being questionable to play prior to the game.

Stafford tipped to win NFL MVP race

In light of that win, Stafford has emerged as an odds-on favorite for the NFL MVP, with his consistent performance keeping the Rams atop the NFC, whilst Josh Allen and Drake Maye remain the closest competitors.

Allen‘s Week 15 heroics against the New England Patriots moved him from +1500 to +550, while Maye sits at +425. Stafford leads the league with 37 touchdown passes this season, strengthening his MVP case.

The veteran QB and the Rams face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16, a pivotal game that could solidify his MVP candidacy as he looks to wrap up the NFC West division for the year against a stern defense.

Adams is unlikely to play, which could impact the offense and will likely see Parkinson step up into a more advanced receiving role. A win would enhance Stafford‘s standing even further.

Allen, meanwhile, delivered 193 passing yards, three touchdowns, and 48 rushing yards against New England. His dual-threat ability keeps him in the race, though his MVP hopes rely heavily on Buffalo winning the AFC East.

Maye‘s chances dimmed after a key head-to-head loss to Allen, and New England‘s playoff odds worsened. Despite scoring two rushing touchdowns, he completed only 14 of 23 passes for 155 yards in the defeat.

The Rams now prepare for a crucial Week 16 showdown, balancing playoff ambitions with Stafford‘s MVP pursuit.
