Seahawks return to the Super Bowl, set for historic rematch with Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks will return to the Super Bowl, and they will do so in historic fashion, facing the last team that denied them the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Seattle lost to the New England Patriots in the 2015 Super Bowl, just one year after defeating the Denver Broncos to claim the franchise’s first championship.

After meeting twice during the regular season, the NFC Championship Game ultimately saw Seattle emerge as the conference champion. With a victory on Sunday at Lumen Field, the Seahawks secured their place as the team that will face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.

Seattle balances offense and execution to claim NFC title at Lumen Field

Seattle prevailed through a balanced combination of its rushing attack and passing game, which proved decisive in a tightly contested matchup that delivered drama until the final seconds.

From the opening drive, the Seahawks imposed their tempo. Seattle struck first with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by Kenneth Walker III, capping an efficient offensive series. Jason Myers added the extra point to give the home team an early 7-0 lead.

The Rams responded with patience on offense. After moving the ball effectively, they got on the scoreboard with a 44-yard field goal by Harrison Mevis, followed later by another from 50 yards to trim the deficit.

Los Angeles then took a brief lead when Matthew Stafford connected with Kyren Williams on a 9-yard touchdown pass, finishing a long, methodical drive and putting the visitors ahead 13-10. Seattle, however, reclaimed the advantage before halftime with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Sam Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, sending the Seahawks into the break with a 17-13 lead.

The third quarter brought further momentum swings. Seattle extended its advantage on another Darnold touchdown pass, this time to Jake Bobo, capitalizing on a Rams mistake on a punt return that gave the Seahawks favorable field position deep in the red zone.

The Rams answered with a long touchdown pass from Stafford to Davante Adams, keeping the game within reach. Still, Seattle responded once more, as Darnold found Cooper Kupp for a touchdown, building a 31-20 cushion.

Los Angeles refused to fold. A 34-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to Puka Nacua pulled the Rams within four points at 31-27, but they were unable to score again in the fourth quarter. Time expired with Seattle protecting its lead, sealing a return to the Super Bowl LX, where the Seahawks will face the Patriots once again-an opponent they have met only once before in the postseason, a loss, though regular-season results have favored Seattle against what is now the Drake Maye-led New England team.
