Scotty Pippen’s son’s finances could be affected if the NBA punishes him after the altercation with Myron Gardner

Saturday night’s showdown between the Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat was far from ordinary. While Miami cruised to a 136-120 victory, the game’s final minutes became overshadowed by a tense on-court confrontation that left fans and analysts talking.

The incident occurred not because of a competitive scoreline, but due to a late-game scuffle sparked by a hard off-ball shove that sent Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. tumbling to the floor.

Video footage showed Pippen Jr. reacting quickly after being knocked down by Miami forward Myron Gardner. What started as a push escalated into a physical confrontation near the courtside seats. Both players went to the floor, with teammates, coaches, and officials rushing in to separate them.

The rapid escalation underscored how quickly frustration can turn a late-game play into a high-profile altercation.

Pippen Jr., 25, was candid about his feelings following the game.

“I thought it was kind of a cheap shot,” he said. “He kind of hit me when I didn’t see him. I thought it was a soft move. I just thought he needed a hug on the other end.”

His remarks highlighted the unusual nature of his response, but the league is unlikely to interpret it so lightly.

Heated exchange leads to ejections and possible league review

Officials ejected both Pippen Jr. and Gardner, ending the confrontation on the court but not necessarily in the league office. The NBA routinely reviews incidents that exceed standard physical play, especially when they involve players being pushed into the stands.

This review could result in additional discipline, including fines up to $50,000 and potential suspensions. Pippen Jr. faces the possibility of a five-figure fine as the league evaluates the escalation and the impact on game safety.

Despite the high stakes, Pippen Jr. maintained a light-hearted perspective. He argued that the incident was less severe than it appeared on television.

“I don’t think any punches were thrown,” he told reporters. “It was, like I said, a hug. I don’t think it was too crazy. Got ejected, I think it should be left at that. It was a physical play, went and shot the three, got hit with a cheap shot, and I came down, and I wanted to talk to him. I guess [officials] didn’t see what happened, so I put it in my own hands.”

While Miami added another decisive win to its record, Memphis must now contend not only with a loss but with the uncertainty of potential league penalties for one of its key perimeter players.

The NBA is expected to announce its ruling in the coming days after a thorough review of video footage and official reports. The outcome will determine whether Pippen Jr.’s “hug” was merely a moment of frustration or a more serious breach of league conduct.
