Scotty Pippen Jr. honors his father’s legacy with powerful new tattoo

Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. recently unveiled a new tattoo paying homage to his legendary father, Scottie Pippen Sr..

The striking design features the six-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer donning his famous Chicago Bulls No. 33 jersey, holding hands with a young boy believed to represent Pippen Jr. himself.

The tattoo prominently includes the word “Legacy” in bold letters. The artwork was shared on Instagram last Friday by the user “inkednba.”

Pippen Jr. created the tattoo as a salute to his father’s illustrious career. Scottie Pippen Sr. is a two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee-recognized both for his personal accomplishments and his key role on the 1992 Olympic “Dream Team.” He is widely celebrated for his partnership with Michael Jordan during the Chicago Bulls’ dominant run in the 1990s.

The father-son duo made NBA history in 2024, becoming the first pair to each record a triple-double in league play. After a stint with the LA Lakers, Pippen Jr. is now preparing for his fourth professional season.

The story behind the names

In an appearance on the “Run It Back” podcast on July 16, Scotty Pippen Jr. explained the spelling difference between his name and his father’s.

“My dad was actually born ‘Scotty’ with a ‘y,’ but when he entered the league and signed many autographs, he switched to ‘ie’ because it was easier. I feel like I should’ve gone with ‘ie’ to keep it simple, but it’s cool to be a little different.”

Born on November 10, 2000, to Scottie Pippen and his then-wife Larsa Pippen, Scotty Jr. openly acknowledges the pressure of being the son of an NBA legend. While many expect him to emulate his father or live up to the family name, he is determined to forge his own path. He admits that comparisons are inevitable but stresses that he does not want them to define his journey.

Despite the shadow of his famous last name, Scotty Pippen Jr. continues to carve out a unique niche for himself in professional basketball with the Grizzlies.
