Scaloni gives details of his meeting with Lionel Messi and aims to play in the next World Cup

The 2026 World Cup is approaching and while everyone takes it for granted that Lionel Messi will play in the competition, the Argentine has not confirmed it and there still seem to be doubts. His coach, Lionel Scaloni, spoke to AFA Estudio and gave some insight into the future of his star player.

Scaloni has always been a very calm coach who does not seek the limelight, so it was newsworthy to see him talk about so many topics before the World Cup and he also confirmed that he met with Messi in person.

Scaloni confirmed that he had already been ratted out with some photos, but it was not important. The coach met with several players, but the meeting with Messi was the one that attracted the most attention. “The images of the photos ratted me out a little bit. I went to eat an alfajor and have a coffee, they ratted me out… But I don’t have to deny it, as I say, with others I have spoken. Sometimes by video call or in person.”

Regarding Messi’s presence at the World Cup, Scaloni explained that there is no need to put pressure on him and that this will be seen. “We talked about a lot of things, but not about that (World Cup), because there is still time. And we don’t want to overwhelm him, we want to leave him alone, let him make the decision he has to make. And we, based on that, will think about the good of the team.”
