LeBron James will play one more year with the Los Angeles Lakers. The NBA icon has decided to exercise his player option that was in his contract. For this reason, during the 2025-26 season he will collect $52.6 million.
King James is entering his 23rd season at the age of 40. He is determined to get revenge after being eliminated early from the Playoffs and compete for a championship, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
However, Charania also said his wife, Savannah James, may be pulling strings to get him to give up and retire earlier than planned.
Last week, the couple went out to dinner in New York with Miami Heat center Kevin Love, his wife, Kate, and other friends. During the evening, one of those in attendance shared a clip of the night on Instagram in which we hear, “[Savannah] wants me to f***ing retire in the next year or so.”
Fans’ reaction
However, the news that Savannah wants and insists LeBron to leave the courts hasn’t sat very well with his loyal fans. Although if it were up to them, they would want that day to never come.
In response to this situation and making use of X, fans left their reaction to the 38-year-old businesswoman’s request:
“She waited all this time she can easily wait 15 more years,” a fan commented. “Mrs Savannah you have to understand…WE NOT LETTING HIM RETIRE,” another user wrote. “Do not let her enroll in Jiu Jitsu,” joked another follower.
Some of them even compared this situation to NFL legend Tom Brady when his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen asked him to retire as his busy schedule had gotten in the way of his family life.
“Oh so she’s trying to be like Gisele huh… Learn from TB… Keep. Playing!”, “Not another Tom Brady and Giselle situation…”, “Tom Brady was in the same situation and chose football”, “He’s really in his Bucs Tom Brady era”, were some of them.
The truth is that only time will tell how many seasons and games King James has left.
