Savannah James is very clear about one thing: children shouldn’t always have what they want. It’s no coincidence that LeBron James’ wife has one of her sons in the NBA and the other on the cusp of entering the league. Savannah knows when to say no, especially when it comes to her children’s safety.
The James family has become one of the most notable families in American sports. It’s not just LeBron as an NBA and Lakers icon; there’s also Bronny forging his own path in professional basketball and Bryce shining with the Arizona Wildcats.
Then there’s Zhuri, the youngest in the family, who is starting to excel in youth volleyball. However, that hobby recently caused some tension with her mother, all because of one of the country’s most controversial airlines.
Savannah vs. Spirit
In a recent episode of their podcast, Everybody’s Crazy, Savannah and her co-host, April McDaniels, openly discussed a viewer’s question about the budget airline Spirit. “I definitely don’t love Spirit at all,” McDaniels admitted, prompting a revealing story from James.
After agreeing with April with an eloquent, “Yeah,” Vannah proceeded to reveal, “My baby [Zhuri] just asked me. She’s going to a volleyball tournament. The team is flying Spirit. She’s like, ‘Mom, I just want to fly my team.’ I said, ‘Baby, I really understand that, but it’s going to be a no.”
Savannah’s children’s comfort comes first
Like many low-cost airlines, Spirit has earned a bad reputation for overbooked flights, cramped seating, and a lack of amenities, among other inconveniences. Spirit gained significant market share by cutting costs to the limit to offer reduced fares, but that came at a cost.
Spirit filed for bankruptcy a few months ago and is currently liquidating assets like souvenirs to raise cash. As Savannah and April demonstrated, a customer can tolerate extreme discomfort once, but they rarely make the same mistake again, even if it’s to please their children.
