Saquon Barkley’s ‘Trump’ touchdown celebration in Madden 26 sparks online frenzy

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is at the center of a viral moment after fans discovered a surprising in-game celebration in Madden 26. The former Penn State star, who was recently announced as the game’s cover athlete, performs what appears to be the “Trump Dance” after scoring a touchdown, leaving social media stunned.

Barkley’s 2024 season was nothing short of historic. In his first year with the Eagles, he racked up 2,005 rushing yards and scored 15 touchdowns, leading the team to a Super Bowl title. His dominant performance earned him a spot in the prestigious “99 Club” in Madden 26, the highest rating possible for a player in the EA Sports franchise.

In a clip now circulating widely online, Barkley catches a pass, breaks away for a long touchdown, and celebrates by tapping his helmet, a nod to his real-life playoff antics, before launching into the animated and exaggerated “Trump Dance.” The reaction from fans was immediate and mixed.

“Saquon and Trump are friends,” one user commented. Another added, “Haven’t bought a Madden game in years. But just for that I’m going to now .” Some were amused, others confused, and a few were outright stunned. “Oh hell no,” one user exclaimed.

The real-life connection behind the Madden celebration

The viral moment comes just weeks after Barkley declined an invitation to join Donald Trump’s Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition. His name had been listed alongside NFL greats like Lawrence Taylor and Tony Romo, but Barkley clarified that he turned the offer down.

“I felt like I’m going to be super busy, so my family and I thought it was best to not accept,” he told reporters. While Barkley did share time with the former president, playing golf together and flying on Marine One to the White House after the Eagles’ championship win, he made it clear he wasn’t interested in a political appointment.

The inclusion of the “Trump Dance” in Madden 26, intentional or not, now feels like a tongue-in-cheek reference to his brief brush with the Trump orbit. Whether fans see it as satire, celebration, or simply a humorous Easter egg, the animation has undeniably become a talking point online, and possibly a factor that boosts the game’s popularity.

EA Sports hasn’t officially commented on the choice of celebration, but if the goal was to get people buzzing, they’ve certainly succeeded. Barkley’s in-game moves are now as headline-worthy as his real-world highlights.
