Although most eyes and minds are on whether Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs can complete an unprecedented three-peat this Sunday, one of the biggest storylines is Saquon Barkley trying to finish off a historic season with a ring. In the midst of one of the best seasons by a running back in NFL history, Barkley is attempting to carry the Philadelphia Eagles to their second Super Bowl triumph.
As Barkley tries to capture the ultimate prize, the national media has been getting to know him a little bit better during Super Bowl week. Barkley delved into more personal details at the media days, but he likely wasn’t expecting what happened on Monday night.
Seemingly out of nowhere, NFL quarterback Jameis Winston showed up at Barkley’s press conference. Posing as a reporter, Winston chose to bypass any question about the Super Bowl; instead, he asked Barkley, “who should sign me in free agency?“
To which Barkley responds, “I think New York needs a quarterback right now… the Giants“.
Barkley, of course, was a member of the Giants for six seasons up until 2024. He experienced plenty of poor quarterback play, and he’s clearly keeping tabs on his former team, who released Daniel Jones midseason and have a gaping hole at the position.
Could New York Giants actually sign Jameis Winston in free agency?
Winston spent the 2024 season with the Cleveland Browns, appearing in 12 games and making seven starts. Given the shambolic Deshaun Watson situation, Winston provided some stability at the quarterback position for the Browns, but continued to turn the ball over at a high rate.

Winston has proven to be a capable backup, but he isn’t quite an above average starting caliber quarterback. That type of profile could actually benefit the Giants, who will likely draft a quarterback high in the 2025 NFL Draft.
They will need a veteran presence, possibly one who can start games in 2025 as a stopgap option until a rookie is ready to take over.
